Baosteel Zhanjiang Integrates High-Capacity Transformer for Low-Emission Steel

Baosteel Zhanjiang Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. advances sustainable steel production in China. The company is developing a hydrogen-driven shaft furnace and a zero-carbon steel sheet plant. These facilities aim to significantly cut emissions through electric arc furnace (EAF) technology. Renewable electricity and hydrogen feedstocks will power the EAF process. Hitachi Energy delivered a 200 MVA electric arc furnace transformer to Baosteel. This unit, the largest in China, supports the Zhanjiang zero-carbon steel sheet mill. The transformer ensures stable, high-power operations for the EAF. Advanced transformer solutions contribute to reducing carbon output in steel manufacturing. The Zhanjiang plant expects to produce 1.8 million tons of low-emission steel annually. This project supports Baosteel's carbon neutrality goals. It also establishes a benchmark for green steel production. China aims for carbon neutrality by 2060.
