Preem's Redefine HVO100 Fuel Achieves Nordic Swan Ecolabel Preem's Redefine HVO100 has become the first liquid fuel to earn the prestigious Nordic Swan (Svanen) ecolabel, successfully meeting the stringent new criteria established in 2022. This innovative fuel, produced at Preem's Gothenburg refinery from residual products such as tall oil, animal fats, and food waste, is visually identical to traditional diesel and can be utilized in most diesel engines without requiring any modifications. This significant certification represents a major advancement in the pursuit of sustainable transportation alternatives. The Nordic Swan is the official ecolabel for the Nordic region, established in 1989 and widely recognized by 97% of its residents. To qualify for this certification, Preem's HVO100 had to adhere to the updated 2022 standards. These standards mandate a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of at least 75% compared to fossil alternatives and require the exclusive use of sustainable, traceable raw materials, with palm oil being explicitly prohibited. As reported by Dagens industri, Preem's Redefine HVO100 can achieve greenhouse gas emission reductions exceeding 90% when compared to traditional diesel. Anna Linusson, CEO of Miljömärkning Sverige, the organization responsible for administering the ecolabel, expressed optimism, stating, "The hope is that the entire industry will shift." The Nordic Swan ecolabel is awarded to a broad spectrum of products and services that demonstrate a reduced environmental impact compared to their non-labeled counterparts.
