Preem's Renewable Diesel Earns Nordic Swan Ecolabel

Preem's Redefine HVO100 has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the first liquid fuel to earn the official Nordic Swan Ecolabel, known as Svanen. This certification highlights the fuel's environmental credentials. Produced at Preem's Gothenburg refinery from residual products such as tall oil, animal fats, and food waste, this renewable diesel offers a compelling alternative to conventional diesel. It is chemically identical, enabling its use in most existing engines without requiring modifications. Crucially, Redefine HVO100 boasts a substantially lower climate impact. To qualify for the updated Nordic Swan Ecolabel criteria, established in 2022, Preem's fuel successfully demonstrated a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of at least 75 percent compared to fossil alternatives. The standards also emphasize the use of sustainable and traceable raw materials, with a strict prohibition on palm oil. Preem's HVO100 meets these rigorous requirements, achieving over a 90 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions relative to conventional diesel. Anna Linusson, CEO of Miljömärkning Sverige, the organization responsible for the Svanen label, expressed optimism that this accomplishment will inspire broader adoption of sustainable practices across the industry. The Nordic Swan, established in 1989, is a highly recognized mark of environmental consciousness, with 97 percent of Nordic residents familiar with it. The label has a long-standing history of certifying a wide array of environmentally responsible products and services.
