This certification confirms the fuel's compliance with rigorous environmental standards, particularly those updated in 2022. Though visually indistinguishable from traditional diesel, Redefine HVO100 is produced from sustainable residual products and offers a substantially reduced environmental impact. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel, established in 1989 by the Nordic Council of Ministers, is a widely respected symbol of environmental quality throughout the Nordic region. To qualify for this label, a fuel must demonstrate at least a 75% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil alternatives. Furthermore, the raw materials used must be sustainable and traceable, with a strict prohibition on palm oil. Preem produces Redefine HVO100 at its refinery in Gothenburg, utilizing residual materials such as tall oil, animal fats, and food waste. This conversion process results in a fuel that is chemically identical to conventional diesel, enabling its use in most existing diesel engines without requiring modifications.
