Nybergs Svets Lands First Major Export Order in Guyana Hospital Project

Nybergs Svets, a Swedish steel subcontractor, has secured its first export order outside the Nordic region, marking a significant milestone for the Alingsås-based firm. The company will supply 1,500 tons of steel structures for a new 230-bed hospital in New Amsterdam, Guyana. This expansion into international markets is a strategic response to a downturn in the Swedish domestic building industry. CEO Patrik Wallin views exporting as a natural progression for the company, which boasts roots dating back to 1914 and a workforce of nearly 50 employees. Historically, Nybergs Svets has primarily focused on supplying steel for Swedish projects, with limited previous export experience in Norway. The opportunity in Guyana, a nation recognized by the IMF as having one of the world's fastest-growing economies, was facilitated by Elof Hansson International AB, now part of Serneke International Group. Elof Hansson International AB assembled a consortium of Swedish suppliers and arranged financing through the Swedish Export Credit Agency (EKN) and the Swedish Export Credit Corporation (SEK). The agreement was finalized with an advance payment from the developer and a guarantee from EKN. According to Wallin, this project provides Nybergs Svets with invaluable experience, positioning the company to actively pursue additional international ventures and diversify into new growth markets.
