Preem's Renewable Diesel Earns Nordic Swan Ecolabel

Preem's Redefine HVO100 has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the first liquid fuel to earn the Nordic Swan Ecolabel (Svanenmärkning) under updated, more stringent criteria introduced in 2022, according to Dagens Industri. This renewable diesel, which is indistinguishable from traditional diesel at the pump, received its official environmental certification this past spring. The Nordic Swan is a highly recognized environmental certification, known by 97% of Nordic residents. Its purpose is to identify products and services that demonstrate a reduced environmental impact. To qualify, fuels must meet rigorous standards, including a minimum 75% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil fuels, and the utilization of more sustainable and traceable raw materials. Importantly, the use of palm oil is prohibited. Preem's Redefine HVO100 exceeds these requirements, achieving an impressive reduction of over 90% in greenhouse gas emissions when compared to conventional diesel. The fuel is manufactured at Preem's Gothenburg refinery, utilizing residual products such as tall oil, animal fats, and food waste. Its chemical compatibility with conventional diesel means it can be used in most diesel vehicles without requiring any engine modifications, representing a substantial advancement for sustainable fuels in the Nordic region.
