Preem's HVO100 Earns Nordic Swan Ecolabel for Sustainability

Preem's Redefine HVO100, a liquid fuel produced from residual products at Preem's Gothenburg refinery, has become the first to earn the Nordic Swan Ecolabel under its more stringent 2022 criteria. This significant development marks a crucial step forward for sustainable transportation fuels. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel, a well-respected mark across Nordic countries, indicates a product's reduced environmental impact. To achieve this certification, fuels must demonstrate a minimum 75% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil fuels. Additionally, they require sustainable and traceable raw materials and must exclude ingredients like palm oil. Preem's HVO100 reportedly exceeds these requirements, offering over 90% lower greenhouse gas emissions than conventional diesel. The fuel is manufactured from waste materials such as tall oil, animal fats, and food waste, and is chemically identical to standard diesel, ensuring seamless compatibility with existing engines without requiring modifications. Anna Linusson, CEO of Miljömärkning Sverige, the organization responsible for the Svanen label, expressed optimism that this achievement will encourage wider industry adoption. "The hope is that the entire industry will move," she stated. This recognition firmly establishes Preem's HVO100 as a leading environmentally conscious alternative within the Nordic market.
