Compass Inc. has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Anywhere Real Estate Inc. in a $1.5 billion stock transaction. The acquisition is poised to solidify Compass's position as the leading residential brokerage in the United States. The proposed transaction values Anywhere shares at $13.01 per share, representing an 84% premium over its closing price of $7.07 on September 19, according to a company statement. Under the agreement's terms, Anywhere shareholders will receive 1.436 shares of Compass Class A common stock for each share of Anywhere they hold.
